Christmas Program
Every year communities across the country participate in their local Toys-For-Tots program. New, unwrapped toys are collected and then distributed to needy children in the community. In Clearfield County, CPCA assists with the intakes for the Toys For Tots program. At our Centre County offices in Millheim and Philipsburg, CPCA assists with the collection and distribution of toys.
If you would like to help a child experience the magic of Christmas by donating, or want to give your child the best Christmas possible and need a little help, call CPCA today for more details. (Note: this program is run November through December.)
Prom Closet
Central Pennsylvania Community Action believes that every girl attending the prom should feel like a princess.“The Prom Closet” is a program designed to assist girls with their prom dresses and accessories. Purchasing a prom gown and accessories can be very expensive, and families who are already living paycheck to paycheck or on a limited income oftencan’t afford to dress their daughters in style. That’s where “The Prom Closet” comes in.
We collect, clean and distribute gowns to lend a helping hand for girls attending their prom.
The Prom Closet requests gowns, jewelry, shoes, purses and any other prom related items from members of the community. New items are also purchased through fundraising events and cash donations.
Beginning in March, a room is transformed into a beautiful boutique where girls can come in to find that perfect dress. We have great community partners in S & S Simply Stylin of Hyde and Chubby’s Cleaners of Clearfield that have made this program a great success. Every item is given through donation so there is no charge for anything, we just ask that you respect that this is a self declared need.
Boutique Days are by appointment, please contact CPCA or your local high school guidance office for more information
In 2011 CPCA also began assisting young men in attending the prom by adding gift certificates for tuxedos.
Summer Program
Group Workcamps is a weeklong home repair program involving volunteers from church youth groups recruited by the Group Workcamps Foundation. CPCA partners with the Group Workcamps Foundation to bring together hundreds of teenage volunteers and adult sponsors to come to your community and spend five days repairing homes for the elderly and low-income residents.
This program has been offered to the community in 2006, 2008, and 2010 by CPCA and the Group Workcamps Foundation. Another camp is tentatively planned for 2013.
