Utility
Every year many Pennsylvanians struggle with home heating and cooling bills. There are many programs designed to help families cope with the ever-rising costs of utilities. CPCA can help you determine if you qualify for one of these programs. Many, but not all, utility assistance programs require that you meet the following income guidelines:
Customer Assistance Program
CAPs can lower your monthly utility bill. They may also remove the amount you already owe. A company will work with the customer to determine what the customer can pay versus the cost of energy used. CAP helps residential customers maintain electric service and eliminate their past-due balance. It can also offer a reduced bill that is based on a percentage of income and debt forgiveness. Debt forgiveness credits are applied directly to participants' electric service accounts in recognition of payments that are made on time and paid in-full. CAP is administered by Human Services staff members and community-based organizations. There are household income requirements and other program qualifications.
Dollar Energy
The Dollar Energy Fund is a nonprofit organization that has provided utility assistance to low income households in Pennsylvania since 1983. Through their partnerships with fourteen gas, electric, and water utility companies they provide approximately 14,000 utility hardship grants to low-income families throughout Pennsylvania on an annual basis.
Neighbor for Neighbor
Through the generosity of individuals in your community and National Fuel Gas Company shareholders, a fund was created to help heat the homes of families in need living in Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania. Because of donations from your neighbors, funds are available to prevent disconnection of utility service, pay current or past due energy bills, and purchase home heating fuel of any kind. Please contact CPCA directly if you are interested in more information regarding the Neighbor for Neighbor program.
